From After-School to Art Show: A Community Celebration of Creativity
For the past eight weeks, 16 students in fourth through sixth grade have been participating in an Afterschool Art Club led by John Piacquadio and Ms. Walkley. Meeting two days a week after school, students were given the opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of artistic projects.
Throughout the program, students created self-portraits, clay sculptures, acrylic paintings, comic strips, and more—building not only artistic skills, but also confidence and self-expression. The Afterschool Art Club fostered a supportive and encouraging environment where students felt comfortable taking creative risks and discovering their own artistic voices.
Reflecting on the experience, art instructor John Piacquadio shared, “Students are beaming with creativity even if we might not be aware. There’s a creative spark there, even if a student may not show it.”
The Afterschool Art Club invites the community to view the students’ work at a public art show held at the Museum in downtown Philipsburg on Saturday, March 7th. Doors will open at 2:00 p.m., and the event will run until 4:30 p.m.
The event is free to attend, though donations are welcome to help support the school’s art program and provide additional art supplies. A raffle featuring several donated items will also be held to raise funds for the continuation of the program.
For students, the club has been about more than just art. Fifth grader Wes Galiher shared, “I love the art club and I don’t want it to go away. Having an after-school club like this was awesome. It helped my mom because she works till 5.”
Community members are encouraged to attend and help celebrate the creativity, growth, and hard work of these young artists.
Thank you for your support!

Today, the Elementary Student Council dressed up and visited each classroom as guest readers to celebrate I Love to Read Month! Our Student Council members had so much fun sharing their love of books with fellow students, and the classrooms were filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement as stories came to life. It was a wonderful way to promote reading, build connections across grade levels, and spread the joy of literacy throughout our school.

The Philipsburg After-School Art Club is proud to invite you to our Art Show on March 7th at 2:00 PM!
This is a free event, and everyone is encouraged to attend. Come enjoy the creative work of our 4th–6th grade students, along with raffles, drinks, and snacks.
The event will run until 4:30 PM, with an awards ceremony at 4:00 PM.
Thank you, and we hope to see you there!
